Concrete Dancefloor – Japan

March 2010

Spectacular moves and thumping beats liven up the streets of Tokyo at night. Japanese kids practice their moves in every thinkable style to show off in a host of trendy new underground dancing clubs.
Were all students and have no money to go to a dance studio”. In the concrete jungle, crowds of young Japanese street dancers come out at night to use the smooth floor and reflecting glass walls of office towers as their improvised studio. Eccentric and loud, those kids like to make a statement and the trend is taking the Japanese youth culture by storm: Instead of learning ballet, more and more join the street dancing crowd.

    The Japanese people …
The Japanese people reading these comments must wonder why Americans turn everything into race.

Stop being idiots, and just enjoy the cool video. What I loved about the video was how mainstream this kind of dancing is, but how it still retains life underground, in cracks of the city most people aren’t visiting at night.

Its like you own the building and the floor you dance on, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Obviously this is a part of pop culture in japan right now, as seen in the video and the massive amount of people partaking in it. You can’t say this is not a part of their culture now. Origins and culture are different. Music and dance belongs to no ethnicity.
